How we handle your information

Who is responsible

What we collect and why

• Email sign-ups. Your email address, and your name if you give it, so we can send the notes or report you asked for. We also keep a record of your consent: the date, the page and the exact wording you agreed to.
• Report requests. When you ask for a company report, we keep your name, email, the report, the page address, your IP address and browser type, and your consent record. This shows when and how you agreed, which Canadian anti-spam law (CASL) requires.
• Contact form. Your name, email and message are emailed to our inbox so we can reply. The form does not store them on the site or add you to any list.
• Accounts. If you create an account, your email, display name, watchlist, alert settings and any positions you enter, so the account works.
• Analytics and advertising. Google Analytics, the Google Ads tag, the Meta (Facebook) pixel and Metricool record pages viewed and actions such as a sign-up, using cookies and similar technology. We use this to see what readers use and to measure our ads. When you request a report, we also send Meta a scrambled (hashed) copy of your email, your IP address and browser type so it can count the sign-up once.

Who we share it with

We do not sell your information. We share it only with the services that run the site, each for its own job:

• Resend, which sends our email and holds the mailing list.
• Supabase, which hosts our database, and Vercel, which hosts the site.
• Google and Meta, for analytics and ad measurement as described above, and Metricool for social analytics.

These providers may store data outside Canada, including in the United States, where it can be subject to local law. The companies whose reports you request do not receive your details from us unless we tell you so on the form and you agree.

How long we keep it

Mailing list details stay until you unsubscribe; after that we keep only your address on a do-not-email list so you are not mailed again. Report requests and consent records are kept for three years after your last contact with us, the period we may need to show consent. Account data stays until you delete the account or ask us to.

Your choices

• Every email has an unsubscribe link that works straight away.
• You can ask to see, correct or delete what we hold about you by writing to research@makercapitalresearch.com.
• You can block or delete cookies in your browser, and limit ad tracking in your Google and Meta settings.
• If you are not satisfied with our answer, you can contact the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for British Columbia.

Security and changes

Access to stored data is limited to the people who run MCR. Connections to the site are encrypted. If we change this policy, we update the date at the top; material changes are also noted in our next email.
